Q: What is SR22 insurance coverage which I am required to have?

A: If you live in Pennsylvania and are required to file an SR22 form, it is because you have received that requirement while you were living in or visiting another state. However, even though you are filing your SR22 form with that state, since you are living in Pennsylvania, what is your SR22 insurance coverage should be the amount required by the state of Pennsylania and not the other state. Here are Pennsylvania’s insurance coverage requirements.

  • $15,000 for the injury/death of a single person
  • $30,000 for injury/death of all persons in an accident, limit
  • $5,000 for any property damage

Now, what is SR22 insurance in Pennsylvania but something that has very low requirements? These limits listed above might not cover your actual expenses in a serious accident, so you should consider raising your limits by several thousand dollars–the most commonly suggested number by car insurance companies is 100/300/100, although it’s up to your discretion. You may also be required to get comprehensive and collision insurance if you are buying or leasing a car.
