SR22 insurance certificate

Q: My car is very old, and doesn’t really need insurance. Do I still need an SR22 insurance certificate?
A: All cars need insurance, but not because of anything involving their individial worth–that might affect the level of insurance, but not the possession of insurance. Reason for this is that the required level of insurance is liability, which means it isn’t for you–it’s for whoever’s car or bodies you would mess up if you got int an accident through your own negligence. Car insurance is mainly there to protect others against you, at least so far as state law defines it.
As for your SR22 insurance certificate, no matter how old or decrepit your car is, you will need one of these if you wish to drive your car. Reason for this is that if you don’t have one, then you will not have your license. Instead, it will be suspended. If you want to drive your car, you need an SR22 insurance certificate.
You can keep it down to the minimum of car insurance coverage, though, and pay less so that you aren’t paying too much money on a junky old car to be insured.
