Q: What can be used as SR22 financial responsibility proof?
A: Although there are a number of ways to prove you have financial responsibility, SR22 financial responsibility proof can only be done in one way, and that is by filing the SR22 form itself with your Department of Motor Vehicles. Your DMV needs to have your form on file every month so that they can know you are insured until an SR-26 comes in, and other kinds of proof of financial responsibility cannot keep them updated on that.
Here are some other kinds of forms of financial responsibility proof SR22 insurance will not accept. You can use these forms for when you are pulled over by a police officer, or when you are getting your inspection sticker renewed, but not for SR22 proof.
- a bond for SR22 with the DMV
- an insurance card which has your name, vehicle type, and coverage limits on it
- proof that you are self insured
