Q: I don’t own a car, but could you explain SR22 insurance to me. I drive a company car sometimes for work and I rent one when I go on business trips. Do I still need SR22 insurance? All the cars I drive are already insured.
A: I’ll explain SR22 insurance to you. Although it might not make sense from a personal standpoint, the state which requires you to have SR22 insurance will require you to have it regardless of what kind of car you are driving. You need SR22 insurance in order to just get your license reinstated, so without it you won’t be able to drive your company or rental cars at all.
What you will need to do instead will be for you to get non owners SR22 insurance, which will cover you no matter what car you are driving, unless the car is yours. This will apply your SR22 coverage to cars which you don’t own, such as your company car.
For your non owners insurance, you will only be able to get covered with basic liability. It is also higher priced than other kinds of insurance policies, because there is no car to include in the rating, even if you always drive the same car.
