How Do I Get The Cheapest SR22 Insurance?

Q: How do I get the cheapest sr22 insurance?

A: There are four main strategies you need to follow when shopping for the cheapest sr22 insurance, and here they are:

  • Shop til you drop.

Good car insurance won’t come to you, you have to go to it, and sometimes it takes a little time before you find it. There’s a big gap between quotes offered by different car insurance companies, so make sure you look at everything available.

  • Take some risk.

If you get more than just the required coverage, then you will need to pay deductibles. If you’re paying deductibles, raise them so you’ll have to pay less monthly. Raising your deductible is the easiest way to lower your annual premiums. You only pay the deductible when you file a claim and your insurance company pays the claim.

  • Check out the savings.

Your sr22 depends on your ability to save. Ask about discounts and find out which ones fit your situation. Make sure you include this question while you’re shopping around so that you don’t get stuck with a company with no discounts.

  • Keep out of trouble.

You may have to get sr22 to stay above water, but if you act good on the road, that will go away in a few years. Follow the laws and keep your insurance current to keep your record clean.

Q: Do you have any tips for saving money when adding a teenager to your SR22 auto insurance certificate insurance policy?

A: Sure. An SR22 auto insurance certificate is a costly type of car insurance, and adding a teen to your policy is bound to make your rates rise yet again, which is why you need to keep your eye on available discounts when choosing a car insurance company. There are two discounts which will save you the most with a teenager, and here they are.

First of all, you should have your teenager be part of a general driver’s education course. You can usually find a class like this at your child’s school. If they take a course in order to get their driver’s license, then once they have the course finished they will be able to get a discount. Don’t forget that your teen needs to be on your SR22 auto insurance certificate while they have their learner’s permit as well.

Second of all, you should keep an eye on your teen’s grades. What does this have to do with your SR22 auto insurance certificate? If your teen makes Bs or higher in his/her classes, then you can save good money on your auto insurance with a good student discount.

Reader’s Question:

My daughter is away at college and was recently arrested for underage drinking. She does not have a vehicle at school but her license has been suspended for 3 months. She is on my auto insurance and I would like to know this affect my insurance rates? I live in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Henry

Lancaster, PA

Even though your daughter is away at college, since she stays on your auto insurance it is likely that her underage drinking violation could affect your car insurance rates. An insurance carrier in Lancaster, Pennsylvania will normally take into account the driving histories of all household members, especially those listed as drivers on the insurance policy.

Since insurance carrier’s rating systems vary, to check for sure how your daughter’s violation of the law will affect your car insurance rates contact your insurance broker. Also your insurance carrier’s rating system should be filed with the Pennsylvania Insurance Department if you would rather contact them for this information.

Alcohol Blood Test And DWI Arrest in Pennsylvania?

Reader’s Question:

Is it possible that I was intoxicated when I got tested for DWI, but not while I was driving? Will this make a difference in my DWI case in Pennsylvania?

Joanna

Philadelphia, PA

When a person has a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of 0.08 or more, the Pennsylvania law defines this as intoxication resulting to a person’s failure to normal use of mental or physical faculties. The time when the test was conducted can present a significant problem for either the prosecution or the defense (depending upon the circumstances). Usually, this problem arises in connection with breath and/or blood tests administered just about 45 minutes to 1 hour and 15 minutes after driving. Since the test is delayed, a person’s alcohol concentration at the time of driving may have been higher, lower or the same due to the absence of other information (i.e. the number and type of alcoholic drinks consumed, the time when the drinks were consumed.)

In order to know the relation of the test result to alcohol concentration at the time of driving, the prosecution may try to present an expert testimony. This process used by the expert is known as retrograde extrapolation where the he relates the test result back to the time of driving. Depending on the facts presented in your case, he may use his knowledge regarding alcohol absorption, distribution, and elimination to have the State’s extrapolation evidence excluded or to come up with issues of reasonable doubt in connection with that evidence.

How Long Does DUI Conviction Stay on My Record in Pennsylvania?

Reader’s Question:

I was convicted of DUI in Pennsylvania. How long does it stay on my record?

George

Bethlehem, PA

It’s terrible to be convicted with DUI and unfortunately, a DUI in Pennsylvania stays on your driving record for 7 years. Pennsylvania started enforcing a new Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Law in 2003. The new law just created a tiered approach toward DUI enforcement and treatment, by including many changes to the terms of suspension, fines, penalties, and other requirements. This new law focuses on treatment for first-time DUI offenders rather than suspension and punishment.

Strictly speaking, licensing requirements and penalties are determined by the combination of an individual’s Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) level and prior offenses. There are three levels of DUI in Pennsylvania: General Impairment (.08 to .099% BAC), High BAC (.10 to .159% BAC), and Highest BAC (.16% and higher).

You see, under this new law on DUI, school vehicle or bus drivers, commercial drivers, minors, and offenders involved in an accident that causes property damage or injures someone may be subject to the high BAC penalties even if their BAC is not in the high category.

It might be best for you to check on the latest legislation about Pennsylvania to verify the duration your DUI stays on your record since laws on DUI have become more stringent in PA in the last few years.

Teen DUI Car Insurance in Pennsylvania

Reader’s Question:

I am under 18 and I receive a DUI in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. If I go through the ARD program, will my car insurance go up at all?

John

Philadelphia, PA

They permit for an Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD) for first time DUI offenders in Pennsylvania. When a DUI offender is accepted into an ARD program the state will then suspends their charges however they will require that certain court ordered conditions are met. These conditions may include community service, drug and alcohol counseling, etc. In addition to a probationary program the ARD program requires a period of supervision.

The ARD is a one-time alternative to a conviction, trial, and possible mandatory jail sentence for the conviction of driving under the influence in Pennsylvania. There is a $500 processing fee and you can expect to pay a fine, a fee for alcohol safe driving class, court costs, and a probation supervision fee.

The Pennsylvania Insurance Department states that if you are convicted of a DUI, whether or not you complete an ARD program, your license will be revoked or suspended. This alone is a valid reason for insurance providers to increase insurance rates, cancel or non-renew your policy.

How Much Does SR22 Or DUI Insurance Cost?

Q: I’m going to have to get an SR22 for DUI conviction…how much can I expect to pay?

A: According to MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers) a whole lot. On average, the least amount you’re looking at paying for SR22 for DUI in one year is $3600, up to around $6000 dollars. Once you’ve picked your jaw up off the floor, there’s more where that came from. Car insurance isn’t the only cost of a DUI. Not only will your license be suspended for six months before you can even try to get it back, but you will have to pay a mountain of fees and fines. The average amount a first time DUI offender pays in all is close to $11,000. And that’s before insurance.

You also risk being unable to get insurance from many places if you have to file an SR22 for DUI conviction. Your current car insurance provider may cancel your policy and every other car insurance provider may say there’s no room at the inn for you. If that happens, you’ll have to get insured through the Pennsylvania assigned-risk pool, which is even more expensive.

Paying for an SR22 for DUI is no walk in the park, but it isn’t impossible either. If you look up car insurance discounts, compare rates, and keep your record clean, then you can save money and possibly look forward to cheaper car insurance rates in the future.

Do I Have to File An SR22 Insurance Form?

Q: Do I have to file an SR22 insurance form if I only drive once a week?

A: Sorry to say, but if you feel liked driving at all on a legal license, then you have to file an SR22 insurance form no matter how often you drive. Since you drive rarely, though, you would probably be able to get a low mileage discount from car insurance companies. The requirements for qualifying for a low mileage discount vary, so it also depends on how far you drive every day. Some companies discount you at five thousand miles a year, and others will discount you at ten thousand miles a year or less, so you should consider this when you;re looking for a car insurance policy.

Another thing you can do is, since you aren’t driving very often and so are at less than the usual risk for getting into an accident, you can lower your car insurance coverage and save a whole lot of your premium just from that. Cut your coverage down to at least liability, unless your financing or leasing your car, and if possible cut it down to a little above the minimum state required liability. Taking these two pieces of advice can help you file an SR22 insurance form while keeping it cheap at the same time.

What Happens If I Drive Without Proof of SR22 Insurance?

Q: What happens if I’m driving and I don’t have SR22 insurance proof?

A:
It depends on why you don’t have SR22 insurance proof. If you don’t have the proof because you failed to pay for your SR22 insurance, then you’re probably going to be in a lot of trouble. when you have SR22 insurance and your premium is canceled, your driver’s license is suspended pretty quickly, so if you’re driving without insurance then your license is likely already suspended. This puts you in a bad situation: not only are you driving without insurance, but your driving illegally without insurance. If you’re caught doing this, then you’ll likely have trouble getting your license back and will be filing an SR22 for a while once you do.

If you don’t have SR22 insurance proof simply because you left it at home or somewhere else, then you don’t have much to worry about other than wasting your time. You’ll have to go to court, but if you can provide proof that you were insured at the time then you won’t have to pay a fine. However, you should remember that in the future you need to have your insurance card in your car no matter where you’re going. Even if you file SR22 insurance every month as proof of insurance, you need to prove your financial responsibility another way if you are pulled over.
